Last Update: June 2019

We recently did a hands-on test of several baby swings (you can find the test here) and we would like to share what, for us, is the best baby swing for small spaces.

You know, in our test, we had families testing most of the available baby swings on the market.

And with so many options available, we have to sympathize with parents trying to find the best option for their kids… and for their places.

It’s not just the fact that you need to find a safe swing your kid will enjoy, it’s also about finding a swing that will fit in your place.

And that, as we both know, can be challenging already.

What to look on a baby swing to make it a great option

  • Safety: For us, it is really important to have a baby swing that is not only compliant with the safety regulations, but also one that lives up to the promises.
  • Battery: Purchasing a great and long-lasting baby swing is not a cheap option. And one that only runs on batteries can really take this investment to unnecessary values.
  • Comfort and Soothing: When we look for a baby swing, we know what we need it to do. It can have all the “technology” or whatever but, at the end of the day, it needs to soothe the baby in a comfortable and healthy way.
  • Easy to clean: Sooner or later you have to clean it (drool, spit-up, diaper overflow…). And it’s very important to find a swing that has a removable and machine-washable cover.
  • Sturdiness: Let’s face it. Your kids will most likely grow with this baby swing and the bigger they’ll get, the smaller that baby swing will look like. And it’s really important to find a swing that won’t tip if your baby leans to the sides.
  • Easy to Assemble: Ok, this has nothing to do with the final product, but has everything to do with the overall experience. You are not buying a tough puzzle, you’ll looking for a soothing experience. For both the baby and yourselves.

Why Graco Glider LX Gliding Swing is the best baby swing for small spaces

Comfort and Safety

As we mentioned before, safety is really important, and this Graco Glider LX Gliding Swing is a great option.

With a 5-point harness, body support, as well as head support, it’s really a comfortable and safe option for your baby.

Also worth mentioning is the overall structure, which makes this swing very hard to tip, even if you have a fussy baby, constantly leaning to the sides.

Have in mind that you shouldn’t neglect the swing safety. It’s common, and this will easily happen, that while your baby is on the swing, you’ll have to leave the baby alone for a few seconds, or minutes.

And this is a great option that will not only leave your baby at peace, as it will also leave you, knowing that the baby is in a safe environment.

Size and Footprint

This is a baby swing that has a frame that uses 40% less space than most leading swings on the market.

And, as you can imagine, it’s really great when you want to add a baby swing to an already crowded, or simply a small space.

It is a roomy baby swing seat that has plush body support and three recline positions for baby’s comfort. Maximum weight capacity: 30 pounds (13.6kg).

According to the product details, the dimensions of this swing are 28 x 24.5 x 36 inches (71 x 62 x 91 cm). The 36″ (91cm) in height is from the bottom of the swing to the top of the toy bar. In fact, from all the swings we tested, this is one of the tallest.

Meaning that you don’t need to bend over as much as you would need in most of the swings on the market.

Just quick info that is really important: the base is a bit heavy (to avoid tipping over) but it’s still easy to move this swing from room to room.

Battery

As we mentioned above, a swing that only runs on batteries can turn out to be a highly expensive purchase.

In this case, Glider LX runs on either AC or 4 D-cell batteries. For the vibration, it uses 1 D-cell battery.

As a quick note, because it’s not clear from the product details, is that the vibration only works with the D-cell battery.

Everything else works by plugging it to the power socket.

Technology and Features

This Glider LX, although very compact, has all the major features the bigger swings have.

It only swings back and front but it does a great job in mimic the same gentle motion you use when cuddling and comforting a baby in your nursery glider.

In terms of vibration, it comes with two different speeds to help the baby relax.

Speaking of the swinging speeds, it comes with 6 different speeds and you have a button for each, not needing to cycle through the levels when changing speed.

As a great feature, you can use a timer button to turn off any music, sound and/or even the swing. You can time it to 10, 20 or 30 minutes duration.

Speaking of sounds and music, Glider LX comes with 10 classical music melodies and also 5 nature-inspired sounds.

The sound doesn’t have the definition you’re used to, but it’s still a good enough sound to ease your baby while swinging.

Extras

Glider LX reclines into three different positions, which may be useful for babies who prefer to sit more upright.

We’re saying this because Glider LX doesn’t offer a completely flat position. But it doesn’t stay too far away from a totally flat position.

Let us also add that this baby swing has a removable cover that you can wash in your washing machine.

It also includes a toy bar, above the swing, with two little stuffed bears. The two stuffed bears are attached via velcro.

The instructions, although not the greatest, with the pictures, if you follow them carefully, you’ll be able to assemble this baby swing in 20-30 minutes.

Amazon Testimonials

“My husband set it up in about 15 minutes and I put our son in it. He was drowsy but very much awake. Within 5 minutes he was out and slept for 2 HOURS! 2 FREAKING HOURS! I thought maybe it was just a fluke so I waited to write this review until we’ve been able to use it numerous times and every time he stays asleep.”
